Refunds and changes, in plain words
Last reviewed 2 October 2026. General guidance; your ticket's fare rules always decide.
SkyFareNet compares fares; we don't sell tickets. For a refund or change, contact the site or airline you paid. Your booking email names it.
Refundable or non-refundable?
- Non-refundable (often the cheapest fare): you usually get no fare back if you cancel. Some taxes and airport charges can still be refundable, so ask.
- Refundable: you get money back, often minus a cancellation fee.
- Changeable: you can move the date, usually for a fee plus any difference in fare.
Fare names such as "Basic", "Value" or "Flex" usually signal these rules. airblue's Value fare, for example, has no checked bag, while Flexi includes 20 kg.
How long refunds take
A refund goes back up the chain: the airline approves it, sends the money to the agency, and the agency pays you. This often takes several weeks. Card refunds can take longer to reach your account than wallet refunds. Ask for the expected date in writing.
Before you pay, check
- Is the fare refundable or changeable, and what are the fees?
- Is checked baggage included, and how many kg?
- Who do you contact for changes: the agency or the airline?
- What happens if the airline changes or cancels the flight?
If something goes wrong
- Keep your booking reference (PNR), e-ticket number and payment receipt.
- If the airline cancels the flight, you are usually entitled to a refund or a free change: ask for it.
- If an agency doesn't respond, contact the airline directly with your PNR.
